Do not ask why they all give the peace sign when they take pictures, so I did too!
We took candy and food for the villagers and the one women you will see was so gracious and told our guide Cindy too much, we do not need anymore! Later you will see her home, which is shared by her two children, her and her husband and her in-laws.
Sorry to go off on my tangent, I am just very touched and realize that all of China is not like the huge fancy hotel we are in, and the Wal-Mart and McDonalds on every corner, this was REAL China, approx. 85% live like what we saw today and worse.
We had our laundry done as you can see from the picture, they wrap your things in plastic like they are brand new, my jeans look BRAND NEW! The cost for Kendall’s clothes was FREE, the total for everything was $10 for a load and a half of laundry and pressing, this was cheap, and all of Kendall’s stuff, blankets, bibs, you can not beat it!
Since You Tube is down we can not upload video on the blog, so the pictures will have to do. At some point the video will be uploaded, may not be until our Sat since tomorrow our Friday is a travel day to Guangzhou.
Ashley: By the way, the picture of me (Dez) standing on the center of the town in Hong Kong i.e. Friday the 19th blog, was taken in Hong Kong’s "Time Square". So yes, Hong Kong is very much like New York, it has so much to offer, theater, museums, shopping, and oh did I say SHOPPING! Every designer label is there, Abercrombie is just as popular with the young crowd as it is in the US, and American Eagle, Louis Vutton is the BIG purse in HK and here in China. The purses in China are knock offs however!
Kendall is again doing amazing, she is very much a schedule baby like Chandler was, she needs her naps and if she does not get them watch out!!! She likes to babble and is such a great sleeper, she went to bet at 9pm and woke at 8:00am! Wow are we lucky!!!!
We are off to the Wal-Mart again, I can not find diapers here in town, the reason you can see from the picture of the split pants they do not use them!
The picture of the older gentleman was a taxi ride offered to us last night, we had to pass, the thought of this frail old man carrying us back to our hotel was a site we would rather not see!We hope to get the video uploaded ASAP, again may not be able to post until our Sat. night due to travel, I just checked You Tube and it is still down :( hope the pictures help!

I'm really moved by your post and glad you saw this side of China. There are things in this world that we will never understand if not seeing them by ourselves. Perhaps we won't truly understand them even then. Nonetheless, it's amazing how people can share the same feelings, happiness and love, no matter how different our lives can be. The village people in the pictures looked really happy. So did you. Hope you enjoy the rest of your journey in China.
It is very interesting to see how people live and it is very humbling to know that most are happy. It goes to show that it's how you choose to look at your life and make it a good one that counts. Not the material things. I suppose we have some similar differences in living within the US, but I wonder if the 'happiness' would come out the same if we were to be polled.
The split pants thing still flips me out. Fire in the rear ..lol.. Definately burn your shoes. Even dry areas could have been previously wet. Yuck! Ah well, to each their own I guess. ^_^
I'll be watching out for more videos and pictures. I hope your flight goes smoothly. Love you all.
Crystal
Your words should humble us all! Seeing such happiness in such squaller makes you think about our good fortune. However these people are also fortunate in that nothing buys happiness!
Dez and Jim, you guys are so great and generous in sharing your travel and Kendall with us. I know you both have so much on your minds and taking your time to keep us, at home, informed is so very gracious of you.
Have I told you how very proud I am of you guy's? If so, I state it emphatically once again. It fills my heart with happiness knowing that you love as you have been loved...and that you are now extending that with a little girl from the other side of the world.
God Bless
Dad~~
Ps I agree with Crystal, the split pants thing flips me out to. I wonder what the logic is when you keep every other area of the body "double wrapped" but leave the poor little tosh exposed...chcukle!
Dad & Crystal: Your comments always make me cry, thank you both! I do the blog for you all and for me, I do not want to forget one moment of this experience, we truly love China, they are so nice and the response we get from them with the thumbs up is so cool, well we are off to finish packing we are so ready to get home!!! Just a few more days hooray!
Dez
P.S. I am so with you both on these split pants, CRAZY!
Jim & Dez;
I find this all interesting.
It is amazing how we Americans place our standards on others, and decide their way of life is wrong and ours is right, instead of different. I think the pig stuff all over looks disgusting and most likely smells horrific, but it is what they know. Regarding the split pants, the only negative thing I can think of is from a disease standpoint, the wetting wherever they choose is awful, I don't think the split pants are awful, rather clever and no landfill problem there with disposable diapers. It is just where they let them go to thr bathroom that is gross. Now you understand why they take their shoes off before entering the house =-). We forget that it was not to long ago our country was much the same, we are a relatively young country, and there are still areas in the poorer states where they do not have running water nor indoor toilets. I am glad to see that you are embracing their culture, and not being an "Ugly American" critisising them.
It is an honor that you are getting to adopt one of their children, so that you and Jim are respecting them is awesome. It makes me very proud of you.
OK, I am off to get Spanky from his playdate with Ryan. Have a safe trip to the next leg. Let us all know that you have arrived safely as soon as you can. Love Mother.
Hi Guys,
We are still following along at school and at home. The kids at school spent all day looking at the new pictures and writing you letters. They are amazed at the prices and the way people live. I think they have become a lot more thankful for the belonging they do have.
At home, we wait each day just to see something new. We love to see the videos of you guys with kendall. You all look so happy.
I am with everyone else on the pants. The kids loved the comment about their rears being on fire :)
Talk to you soon!
Christine
Thank you very much for sharing!
Thanks for writing this.
