Journey to Kendall

We created this blog so that Chandler and of course all of our friends and family can follow our journey to GO GET KENDALL! This truly has been a journey in patience, and perseverance, and we have found the MAJOR difference between giving birth to a child and adopting is... No EPIDERAL for the pain, yet, we know the day we hold Kendall in our arms it will seem like nothing, kind of like pregnancy amnesia we will have adoption amnesia. So follow along, we will post as much as possible, and please leave us your thoughts and comments!

Big Smiles

Well it's been 24 hours that we have had her and what an amazing day it's been. From the second we got her until now she has come out of her shell and is showing us what a bright shining star she is. She finally smiled earlier in the morning for the first time. Now if one of us walks in the room and smiles at her she gives us the cutest smile I have ever seen. To prove that here is a short video.

We have also found that she is very much her mothers daughter. If she does not get her way she throws the biggest fit. It has been very hard for us to be away from Chandler, but we have been using Skype to talk back and forth and with the web cams it has been great. Here is Kendall talking to her big brother for the first time, I'm sure they are coming up with a plan to drive their parents crazy.

While we have been in China, Chandler has been busy building the coolest pirate ship around. Chandlers adventure continues next week with his trip to Disneyland, where he will check out all the cool rides so when his little sister goes there he can show her where they are.

Well we are off to a play date and pizza with all the other parents, we'll keep everyone updated on our big outing tomorrow to WAL-MART!!!

There it is!

That smile could melt a heart, break one (and probably will someday...chuckle)! Or mend one. What a DARLING she is! Both Kendall, Mom & Dad are simply glowing with happiness and delight...as are those of us who await her arrival here!

I thank God for the blessing of my children and grandchildren and now, blessed again with Kendall...and someday, a long time to come, but great grandchildren. I know that Pop & Nana are smiling down from heaven at this very moment as they see the family extend.

My love to you all...

This is just too good not to pass on to all. Something absolutely positive for a change. I have repeatedly seen the breakdown of the cost of raising a child, but this is the first time I have seen the rewards listed this way. It's nice.

The government recently calculated the cost of raising a child from birth to 18 and came up with $160,140 for a middle income family. Talk about sticker shock! That doesn't even touch college tuition.

But $160,140 isn't so bad if you break it down. It translates into:

* $8,896.66 a year,

* $741.38 a month, or

* $171.08 a week.

* That's a mere $24.24 a day!

* Just over a dollar an hour.

Still, you might think the best financial advice is don't have children if you want to be "rich." ?Actually, it is just the opposite. What do you get for your $160,140?

* Naming rights. First, middle, and last!

* Glimpses of God every day.

* Giggles under the covers every night.

* More love than your heart can hold.

* Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs.

* Endless wonder over rocks, ants, clouds, and warm cookies.

* A hand to hold, usually covered with jelly or chocolate.

* A partner for blowing bubbles, flying kites

* Someone to laugh yourself silly with, no matter what the boss said or how your ?stocks performed that day.

For $160,140, you never have to grow up. You get to:

* finger-paint,

* carve pumpkins,

* play hide-and-seek,

* catch lightning bugs, and

* never stop believing in Santa Claus.

You have an excuse to:

* keep reading the Adventures of Piglet and Pooh,

* watching Saturday mo rning cartoons,

* going to Disney movies, and

* wishing on stars.

* You get to frame rainbows, hearts, and flowers under refrigerator magnets and collect spray painted noodle wreaths for Christmas, hand prints set in clay or Mother's Day, and cards with backward letters for Father's Day.

For $160,140, there is no greater bang for your buck. You get to be a hero just for:

* retrieving a Frisbee off the garage roof,

* taking the training wheels off a bike,

* removing a splinter,

* filling a wading pool,

* coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs, and coaching a baseball team that never wins but always gets treated to ice cream regardless.

You get a front row seat to history to witness the:

* first step,

* first word,

* first bra,

* first date, and

first time behind the wheel.

You get to be immortal. You get another branch added to your family tree, and if you're lucky, a long list of limbs in your obituary called grandchildren and great grandchildren. You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminal justice, communications, and human sexuality that no college can match.

In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there under God. You have all the power to heal a boo-boo, scare away the monsters under the bed, patch a broken heart, police a slumber party, ground them forever, and love them without limits. So, one day they will, like you, love without counting the cost. That is quite a deal for the price!!!!!!!

Love & enjoy your children & grandchildren!!!!!!!

What a cute video. Looks like the tantrums are over :) She just looks sooo happy. Brad and Ashley are having so much fun watching the videos. Brad says he hopes she grows up quick so she can play with him and Chandler.
We will check in again tom. It is our nightly routine now.

Oh My GOSH! Could she be any cuter, OK my vote is for her in pink. I absolutely adore the picture of her with the pink hair ribbon and the pink top. TOO CUTE! Yahoo, fionally a baby girl to dress, now can I buy clothes? Chandler is loving the videos. He says he can't wait to be funny for her, cause you know babies love him. When he did prayers at dinner last night he said keep his Mom and Sister safe in China, no mention of Dad. I guess he thinks you are invincible Jim. When I ask him what about Dad, he says what about Dad, he is fine. It is in the genes, macho men at 4 LOL. Have a great day with our little girl, and we can't wait to hear more on you adventure. Love Chandler, Mother, Steven, Gramdma, Calle.
